How to Select a crystal

How to select the right crystal?

So you are new to crystals and just don't know where to start. Or, perhaps you are looking to add on to your existing crystal collection.  There are a few different factors you may want to consider when choosing your next crystal.

Intention

Some people choose crystals based on their metaphysical properties, such as the ability to promote healing or manifest feelings of calm, clarity or abundnce. If you have a specific intention in mind, you may want to choose a crystal that corresponds with that intention.

Appearance

You may simply be drawn to the appearance of a particular crystal. Crystals can come in a wide range of colours, shapes, and sizes, so you can choose one that you find aesthetically pleasing.

Points: Crystal points are long, thin crystals with pointed ends. They are believed to amplify energy and direct it outward, making them useful for healing and meditation.

Spheres: Crystal spheres are smooth, round crystals that are believed to radiate energy in all directions. They are often used for scrying and divination.

Tumbled stones: Tumbled stones are small, smooth crystals that have been polished. They are often used for reiki healing, meditation and to carry with you through the day.

Hearts: Crystal hearts are carved in the shape of a polished heart and are often used for emotional healing and manifesting love.

Clusters: Crystal clusters are natural clusters of crystals that grow together. They are believed to promote harmony and balance, making them useful for home decor and energy healing.

Pyramids: Crystal pyramids are four-sided structures with a square base and triangular sides that meet at a point. They are believed to focus and amplify energy, making them useful for manifestation and intention-setting.

Crystal Quality

If you plan to use the crystal for jewellery or other metaphysical purposes, you may want to consider the quality of the crystal. Look for crystals that are clear and free of blemishes or inclusions.

Clarity: High-quality crystals are usually clear and free from inclusions or cracks. Inclusions or cracks can affect the crystal's energy and may reduce its vibrations.

Colour: Vibrant and bright colours are usually a sign of high-quality crystals. However, some crystals, such as clear quartz, are naturally colourless, so the absence of colour may not be an indicator of poor quality. It is also important to check for artificial colours. These are most common in Agates. We generally do not stock man-made crystals except for Opalite and it is clearly stated this is man-made.  We try our best to also only stock natural crystals that are not heavily processed or interfered in treatment processes. Eg. A lot of Citrine on the market is heat treated Amethyst.  We stock both natural and heat treated Amethyst and it is clearly stated so you know exactly what you are buying.

Form: The shape of the crystal can also be an indicator of its quality. Crystals that are well-formed and have defined edges and angles are generally considered to be of higher quality.  With the increase of lab-grown crystals, be mindful to check for formations that are too symmetrical or 'perfect'. It is important to consider price and source when looking at the form of a crystal.  This will help identify lab-grown or artificial crystals from natural ones.

Energy: The energy or vibration of a crystal is perhaps the most important factor in determining its quality. High-quality crystals will have a strong, clear energy that you can feel when you hold them. Always go for the crystal that you are drawn to.  It is your inner spirit guiding you towards the metaphysical healing that you need - sometimes before you know you need it.

Source

If you are concerned about ethical sourcing, you may want to choose a crystal that has been ethically mined. We only stock crystals where we can trace the origin and know how the crystal was manufactured. We have a small group of suppliers who are small, family run businesses with their own mines.

Ultimately, the best crystal for you is one that resonates with you on a personal level and meets your specific needs or intentions.
